What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is a body's response to stress, it can be identified by fear and nervousness about the future. In anxiety, a person is nervous, afraid and feels miserable of anticipated events. When a person is feeling anxiety there’s a feeling of discomfort and stress due to the overreaction to certain situations. Anxiety creates health problems like fatigue and lack of concentration.
Everyone feels anxious at some point in their life and it is good for survival ( it lasts for a shorter period) but if this feeling stays for a longer period or if a person is anxious about little things like talking to strangers, crossing roads, leaving home for work, it can cause serious mental conditions like OCD, panic disorders, etc.
Causes of Anxiety
The exact cause of anxiety is not known yet but medical professionals across the globe agree that it results from a combination of different factors such as environmental and genetic factors. Some common causes which can result in anxiety are:
- Relationship problems, family problems, work-related( office) problems.
- Genetics- genetics also plays a major role in developing anxiety as a person having a family history of anxiety is more likely to develop the disorder.
- Imbalance of hormones and the functioning of the brain.
- Certain medications can cause anxiety, chronic illness, the result of a different disease.
- Withdrawal from certain addictive substances like drugs, tobacco, and alcohol.
Symptoms of Anxiety
There are many signs and symptoms of anxiety which can be seen easily in a person suffering from an anxiety disorder. Some common signs and symptoms of anxiety disorder are :
- Increase in heartbeat
- Butterflies in the stomach
- Nightmares, pain attacks, feelings of nervousness, and fear.
- Fear of a place, event, or a particular activity.
- Restlessness, sleep problems, breathing problems.
If all these symptoms remain for a longer period of time then it is a sign of anxiety disorder and it needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

1. Supta Baddha Konasana
This yoga for anxiety makes the breathing process smoother and deep which helps the body to gather energy. The energy is then distributed properly in the whole body and controls anxiety.
2. Supta Sukhasana

4. Utthita Parsvakonasana

5. Ardha Chandrasana

6. Adho Mukha Svanasana
By practicing this asana, blood flows towards the mind which helps the neurons to get activated.
7. Salamba Sirsasana
As this asana is practiced against the gravitational force which helps in activating the hypothalamus that controls our mind. This decreases the load from the mind by increasing blood circulation to provide relief from stress and anxiety.
8. Viparita Dandasana
This is a backward bending asana that makes the chest stretched and makes the breathing deep. As a result, this asana activates the dormant energy situated within the body and mind.
Hormonal imbalance is also the main cause of anxiety. So, this yoga for anxiety balances the hormonal process in the body and hence provides relief in anxiety.
10. Setu Bandha Sarvangasana
Due to anxiety and also in case of stress, the heartbeat gets fast and imbalanced. This yoga for anxiety will balance the heartbeat and control the blood flow towards the heart.
11. Ujjayi Pranayama
